Obituary of Ruth Wagner Hood
Ruth Wagner Hood, 95, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, at her home in the care of her daughter, Jane Briggs, and family. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Ruth was born on October 12, 1925, to the late Henry and Edith Givens Wagner. One of seven siblings, Ruth loved to dance. She was a member of the USO and performed for US troops across the country during World War II. She is remembered for her style, determination and creativity. Later in life she became a prolific watercolorist, enjoyed her time on the tennis court and was an avid Rays fan. Her greatest joy was her 7 children and their families. Ruth and her husband Dr. Doug Hood, relished 25 years of companionship and adventure.
She is survived by her children, Ruthann (Michael Bullock) Schoeffield, Matthew (Jean) Schoeffield, Clare (Peter) Calleri, Joseph (Sharon) Schoeffield, Jane (Darren) Briggs, daughter-in-law Kathleen Schoeffield, son-in-law Jeffrey Payne; 5 stepchildren and their families, 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded in death by Dr. Douglas W. Hood, husband, Mari S. Payne, daughter, William J. Schoeffield Jr., son and grandson Maxwell James Schoeffield.
A service to celebrate Ruth's life will take place on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 11:30 am at St. Mary Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, St. Petersburg, FL. Visitation is at 10:30 am at Anderson McQueen Northeast Chapel, 2201 Dr. Martin Luther King Street North, St. Petersburg FL.
