I will cherish the last few days we shared together in September. We had so much fun shopping, dining at the St Petersburg Yacht Club, telling stories and playing Farkle, even though you beat me the majority of the time. You are a special lady, Aunt and my Godmother, I will truly miss you! Love Patricia

Delores, or to me “Carole’s Mom,” certainly had a way of getting into your heart. As a long-time resident of St. Petersburg, I remember seeing her at the Palladium on more than one occasion. Most recently, she was ushering during a Pavlo concert and I was surprised to see her standing in the lobby. I knew she was in her 90s by then and I thought she had “retired” from volunteering. Nope! It was great to see her still active in the community even into her 90s. I admired her for her energy and for her creativity in enriching her children’s lives. Carole told me that when they were little children, she took them to many free community sponsored activities. As a mother of five, she took advantage of little theatre, library, school plays and concerts, and community-center events. I followed her example and took my children to these types of homespun shows and activities. Delores will be missed.

I met Dolores (and she liked to emphasize the "o" in Dolores - she was NOT Delores!) 41 years ago when I first went to work as a RN at the Pinellas County Health Dept. Dolores was a consummate public health nurse, and was a great role model. She also was one of the secret organizers for a surprise groom shower for me when my wedding was approaching. She had an infectious laugh and was dedicated to helping others in need. After a decade or so, I moved on from the Health Dept. but it seemed I would regularly bump into Dolores at St. Anthony's, or the Mahaffey, or at the Palladium. I was not even aware of all her volunteering at Daystar; she was simply an amazing person. Dolores was a stellar example of a person who volunteered her time and talents in the community. The world would be a much better place with more people around like Dolores; may she rest in eternal peace.
Sincere condolences to all family members.

Mom also loved being silly, and indulged all of us in that silliness too! She was a 2x breast cancer survivor; we did the annual Cancer Walk a couple times around Northshore and Vinoy Park. And she loved camellias which symbolize love, affection and admiration. Indeed fitting.

Mom and Doris Gray had a long and beautiful friendship. How those two could laugh! For years, they jointly celebrated their birthdays. Now they're together again, no doubt having a good time!

Mom was given 3 different grandmother nicknames by her grandchildren: Grammie (Scott & Laurel), Baba Dolores (Lilia & Sabina), and MomMom by my son, Michael, when he was 18 months old. She loved sharing experiences with all her grandchildren.

Music was a big part of Mom's life. She took eight years of piano lessons growing up. When we children were young, we'd often fall asleep to the sound of Mom playing the piano - classical music, Broadway show tunes, and a few standard American folk songs. The radio was always on when Mom was busy in the kitchen. She particularly loved musicals and movie musicals and was a fan of marching band music. Mom and Dad enjoyed attending the band competitions during the Festival of States month that St. Pete used to have.

Everyone LOVED Mom's crazy socks! It was a sad day when she told us kids she had enough and we needn't buy her more. (Susan gave Mom these shark socks one Christmas.)

I’ll always be grateful to Dolores for heading up the nursery for Wednesday Morning Bible study in the early 2000s. She took care of my daughters Mary and Kate and many other children so that the moms could learn the word of God and have fellowship. Thank you Dolores for all you gave of yourself to others. May you Rest In Peace and hear the words of our Lord “well done good and faiths servant. Julie Musselman

To all the Smith siblings I send my thoughts and prayers. Your mom was a force to be reckoned with and as my high school Girl Scout leader an early adult mentor. She was an inspiration and I was blessed by her energy to live well and with purpose every day. Paula and I have been friends from junior high and times at the Smith home were always pleasant and filled with silliness including the cut glass vessel that leaked water down your shirt when used. Now she is gone I know visits to Florida may be few and far between. Let's keep in touch and know you are always welcome in my home.
