Obituary of Maynard Benham Welch, Jr.

Maynard Benham Welch Jr., 93, of St. Petersburg passed away peacefully October 22, 2022. He was born in Gadsden, Alabama and graduated from Rockville High School in Rockville, IN in 1948. He attended Purdue University and served in the National Guard. He met and married the love of his life, Virginia Rose (Atkinson), in Indiana and together they created a lifetime of memories for 68 years. Maynard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Maynard was a third generation carpenter and began working for his Dad, M.B. Welch, in the general building and contracting business. He and Virginia moved permanently to St. Petersburg in 1957. After retiring from the construction business, he continued to work for Adjust-a-Brush for another twenty-one years until his final retirement in 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, M.B. (Maynard Burton) and Mary Welch, his brother Jerry, granddaughter Jennifer and his beloved wife Virginia. Maynard is survived by his daughters Janet and Amy, grandsons Austin and Dylan and great-grandson Andrew.

Maynard will always be remembered for being a fun-loving kind soul, having a big smile and a generous laugh. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, eating great meals, watching movies, listening to and attending classic country music concerts and just being surrounded in the company of his beloved family. He also loved traveling to his home state of Indiana to visit family and the mountains of North Carolina, especially Maggie Valley.

There will be a graveside memorial service for immediate family only for both Maynard & Virginia at a later date.
