She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Calvin Franklin Eveland (Bud); her father and mother, Oscar Wayne Hegwood and Ireta Velma Cook; her brother, Wayne Hegwood; and her granddaughter, Crystal Ann Slough. Velma is survived by her two sons, Christopher Lee Slough and Anthony Charles Eveland; her daughter-in-law, Vicki McCormick; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Darian Wimmer and Tyler Wimmer; her sisters, Sylvia Bowman (Steve), Carole Springer (Keith), Barbara Fagan (George), and Mary Martin. Velma was a very independent, resourceful, well-traveled and loving individual. She was a woman of grace, poise and beauty. She had a love for music, dance, crafting and bowling. Her love for her children, grandchildren and family was unmatched. Her dedication to McLane Mid-Atlantic earned her many rewards and acknowledgements throughout her 25 years of service, until her retirement. After her retirement, she relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she was a member of the Sunshine Club within her community. She gained many friendships along the way, and was loved by all. Her daily texts and weekly phone calls to her family will be greatly missed. It warms the hearts of the family to know that her very loved and belated husband, Bud, will be waiting for her with open arms. Her Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held at the Southernairre Community Clubhouse, on December 21, 2022 at 1:00p.m – 4:00pm. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in honor of her granddaughter, Crystal Ann Slough.
