Obituary of Sandra Ann Ambush

Ambush, Sandra “Sandi,” 73, passed away on November 18, 2023 while in the gentle care of Suncoast Hospice. She was born in Harvey, Illinois. She lived in Grayslake, IL, Washington, D.C. and Mallorca, Spain before settling in St. Petersburg in 1970. Sandi was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bernard “Mac” and Helen Akerman; her parents Donald and Helen Kanabay; her sisters Theresa and Donna and her brother-in-law, Gholamali. Sandi is survived by her husband of fifty years, Leslie; her children, Selena (Rolando), David (Erin) and Harris (Elizabeth); sister, Catherine; niece, Christina (Marc), nephew, Donovan (Stephanie) and grand-nephew, Kai. Sandi was especially proud of her two beautiful grandsons, August and Lachlan. For 45 years, she worked for the Kanabay family court-reporting business. She attended Our Lady of Good Hope, Mother of Mercy Priory and St. Paul’s Catholic Church at varying times. Sandi coached indoor soccer and provided a plethora of behind-the-scenes support to Les in running “Everyone’s A Winner” Indoor Soccer, a St. Petersburg youth athletics staple from 1985-2007. Later in life, she served as a Juvenile Guardian Ad Litem and offered further support to Les as he facilitated several self-help and personal growth organizations. Sandi was also the family fix-it person, possessing an uncanny knowledge of gadgets and gizmos. Sandi’s essential nature was to do and to give. In 2019, Les awarded her a trophy acknowledging her as the “President of the Mother’s Hall of Fame.”

A private family ceremony will be held as well as a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
