Obituary of Muriel R Roscorla

In the heart of St. Petersburg, Florida, a remarkable story came to its final chapter as Muriel R. Roscorla peacefully passed away at home, just shy of her 101st birthday. Her journey began in Nyack, New York, on March 7, 1923, where she made a premature entrance into the world to Augustus and Eliza Bell Trojan. Sadly, Muriel was greeted by the tender embrace of tragedy as her mother, Eliza Bell Trojan, succumbed to pneumonia only two days later. Muriel's resilience shone from the very start, spending 3 months in the hospital as a premature baby. Despite her fragile beginnings, she was adopted and thrived under the care of Albert H. and Margaret A. Von Bothmer (Bothner), who welcomed her into their hearts and home. With each passing year, Muriel's spirit blossomed, eventually meeting Alfred Roscorla in church in 1951.They were married September 12,1953. Together, they embarked on the adventure of building a family. Through the highs and lows of life, Muriel found solace and purpose within the embrace of Jermain Memorial Presbyterian Church, where her voice soared alongside the choir and was a member nearly half a century. Memories of sun-drenched lake picnics with her loved ones, her dedication as a Girl Scout leader, working as a polling clerk during elections and the vibrant colors of her garden paint a portrait of a woman deeply rooted in her community. Her professional journey weaved through various roles, from the bustling halls of the New York Comptroller Department, working during primaries and elections, and then to the quiet sanctuaries of households where she served as a home aide. Yet, perhaps her most cherished role was that of a devoted wife to Al for 26 years and cherished his memory after his passing in 1980. In 1996, Muriel embarked on a new chapter, relocating to St. Petersburg to be near her beloved daughter, Ruth. There, surrounded by the warmth of family, she found her greatest joy. Her compassionate soul extended beyond human bonds, as evidenced by the menagerie of stray animals she welcomed into her home over the years. Muriel's legacy is not simply one of years lived but of lives touched. She leaves behind a tapestry of love woven for her daughter Ruth and son-in-law Roberto Sosa, her grandchildren Philip Sosa, Alejandra Sosa, Regina Cabrera (Luis), Emilio Sosa (Katie} and their families. As we gather to celebrate her life on February 16th, 2024 at 6 p.m., at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, let us remember Muriel Roscorla not as a mere survivor but as a fighter whose fierce love for life, family, and animals ignited the hearts of all who knew her. Though she may have departed from our midst, her legacy of love remains eternally etched within our hearts, a guiding light in the darkness.
