Michael, You are in my thoughts constantly. Some of the hardest & most difficult times in my life have been, as I look back, crucibles out of which many of the great things in my life have emerged. I hope that in the future, now will be one of those times for you.

When I think back to some of my first memories, as a little girl, I remember Aunt Susie and her big smile. She always seemed so exotically beautiful to me, just because she was from Hawaii, and somehow the fact that she came from there just stirred the imagination, she embodied its beauty and mystery giving us a connection to it. I don't know too many other little girls from Spangler who got professional hula lessons! and had their beautiful aunt do the hula at family gatherings. How cool was that? When you guys moved to Florida,we all missed you all so much--Aunt Susie, very much absent as one of our "moms"--they were all so close. The Florida years reconnected everyone and visits to your homestead with her and Uncle Freddie were just always so happy. They just lit everyone up--I'll never forget the fun we had at the twins' 80th, unforgettable. Unforgettable like your dear mom. I am so grateful she crossed oceans and continents to grace our family with her love. God bless you all. Much love, many kisses and "bites"!!Shelly and all

View full sizeDear Michael, I am SO sorry for your loss, but from reading your letter, I know you were relieved and happy to have your mom spend quality time before she left us. I hope you are doing ok? Well, I hate to have to tell you this, but my darling son, Gabe died on May 6 two weeks ago. Suddenly, while he was working at a facility in Denver for violent youth offenders. A kid needed to be retrained and then he just dropped and was gone. No cause of death yet, autopsy inconclusive. Maybe scarring on heart from the bacterial spinal meningitis in 2004. We buried him a week ago here in New Orleans. He would have graduated Magna Cum Laude on June 6, I will recieve his diploma. Alot of his friends from Denver and high school were at the 2 drumming and food ceremonies I had for him here in town, met countless fabulous people, he was a loved guy, and that is giving me some comfort. I will also be going up this Wed to celebrate his 23rd birthday bash his friends organized. Molly will come with me. Then we will drive back his pickup truck and bring his dog Tator back with is. Life will never be the same, but it never was the moment he was born, it was GREAT, not just good. I would like to ask you to join facebook, I did to keep in touch and remember Gabe, you would be able to see updated photos of us on there. Love you and know that your mom is learing how to Snowboard up there with Gabe, love Sandra Blair

Mike,I called my mother's passing a "sweet release". It sounds as if that is what your mother had. How wonderful that you got to have a good 6 months to spend with her. I think of you every now and then. Carol Olive called a few months ago and asked about you and your mom. I told her I had no idea what was happening as I had not seen either of you for years (the time I popped in after I moved back here to St Pete when I divorced. Write to me once in awhile. Tim, my son, is 38 now and lives in Dublin, Ga with his wife of 11 years. My youngest, Beth (27), lives in Cleveland, TN. Stephanie (34), my middle daughter is living in Seminole with her dad, husband, and 4 kids.Love, Dotti "Magoon" : ( lol
