Obituary of Derrill V. Johnson
Johnson, Derrill V., 88 of St. Petersburg, FL passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2018.
He was born in Albuquerque, NM, on April 4, 1930 to the late Martha and LaVerne Johnson. Shortly after his birth the family relocated to St. Petersburg. Derrill attended St. Petersburg High School where he ran track and graduated with the class of 1948.
Following High School, Derrill enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a Tin Can Sailor aboard the destroyer USS Isherwood. Upon his return home, Derrill attended St. Petersburg Junior College before joining the family company, Johnson Upholstery Inc. He was an avid fisherman and was known for lively storytelling of his early years growing up in St. Petersburg during the Great Depression.
Derrill is survived by his wife of 60 years, June E. Johnson; son, Daniel N. (Teresa) Johnson; grandchildren, Tara Johnson, Jessica (Troy) Fischbach; great grandchildren, Elliot Fischbach, Remy Fischbach and Sebastian Johnson.
A visitation will be held from 9-10am with a service at 10am on Friday, May 25, 2018, Anderson McQueen Family Tribute Center, 2201 Dr. MLK Street St. Petersburg, FL 33704. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery. Condolences can be shared with the family at www.andersonmcqueen.com.
